Active Hemostats: Liquid Fibrin Sealants
Fibrin sealants are tissue adhesives used by surgeons to stop the
bleeding from small blood vessels during surgery when conventional
surgical techniques are not feasible. OMRIX is developing a suite
of next-generation hemostats that provide surgeons with easy-to-use
and effective means to promote hemostasis, or control of bleeding,
during surgery. We compete effectively in the active hemostats market
with our Evicel™ (in the US) and Quixil® (outside of the
US) products, which are fibrin sealants that contain a unique Biologically
Active Component, or BAC. We expect this market to grow substantially
as there is a need for more effective products. Quixil® is indicated
for use as a general adjunct to hemostasis in Europe, Israel and
several other countries. Evicel™ is our next generation Fibrin
Sealant and is indicated as an adjunct to hemostasis for general
surgical use in the US.
Advanced Hemostats: Fibrin patch
In collaboration with Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company,
we are developing a breakthrough convergence product, the fibrin
patch. Our fibrin patch is being developed as a tool to help emergency
room and other surgeons stop severe and brisk, including active
bleeding that is difficult to control. Fibrin patch will help surgeons
heal bleeding wounds in two steps: first by acting as an immediate
physiological barrier to stop bleeding; and second, by utilizing
a biological component that promotes the rapid formation of a clot
at the site of the wound. We believe our fibrin patch has the potential
to answer an unmet surgical need, particularly in cases of severe
and brisk bleeding.
